It is with great pride that we present this report on the successful completion of the 3rd International Conference and Exhibition for Raw Materials (ICERMS) November 2024 edition. Hosted by the Canadian Centre for Raw Materials Display Inc. (CaCeRMDI), this event brought together thought leaders, policymakers, business professionals, and researchers to explore and promote economic opportunities surrounding Manitoba’s raw materials, as well as the diverse resources of Kogi State, Nigeria.
Event Overview
The conference took place from 2-8 November 2024 at the Mahon Theatre (conference room) of the Prince Albert Public Library in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. This venue provided an inspiring environment for discourse, presentations, and networking. A highlight of the event was the proclamation by the Mayor of Prince Albert, recognizing 4 November 2024 as “City of Prince Albert Day for Raw Materials.” This symbolic act underscored the city’s commitment to fostering awareness and education on the importance of raw materials in global economic development.
Special Messages and Keynote Speeches
Our event was honoured by greetings from Canada’s Prime Minister and the Premier of Manitoba, who acknowledged the critical role of raw materials in economic growth and innovation. The Governor of Kogi State, represented by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the state’s commitment to promoting its vast raw material resources in alignment with international standards. Kogi State’s Commissioner for Natural Resources also showcased the state’s abundant and diverse resources, highlighting areas for potential investment and collaboration.
The Director General for Research and Development, Kogi State, further contributed with insights on sustainable management and innovation in raw material utilization.
Distinguished Participants and Speakers
A total of 38 delegates attended ICERMS 2024, including representation from key international and local stakeholders. Despite the absence of four regular foreign delegates, the strong turnout, particularly of diplomatic visa holders from Kogi State, demonstrated the global commitment to this initiative. Notable keynote speakers, including industry leaders Paul Labbe and George Lewko, enriched the discussions with their expertise, alongside our Master of Ceremonies, Tara Kennedy, who adeptly guided the event proceedings.
Engagement Activities and Highlights
An interactive component of the conference featured a trivia contest on Manitoba’s raw materials. This initiative fostered active participation and rewarded two individuals with a prize of $100 each for their correct answers, adding an engaging and educational element to the event.
Achievements and Future Directions
ICERMS 2024 marked a significant step in CaCeRMDI’s mission to showcase Canada’s and Nigeria’s raw materials on the global stage, promoting economic opportunities and fostering collaboration across borders. The conference encouraged dialogue on sustainable development, resource management, and potential international partnerships, resonating with the event’s theme: “Discovering the Economic Viability of Manitoba Raw Materials.”
As we look forward, we envision deeper partnerships and ongoing engagement with local and international stakeholders, reinforcing Canada’s commitment to global cooperation in the field of raw materials. This conference not only highlighted resources but also encouraged educational exchange and knowledge transfer that will benefit both Canada and international partners.
In conclusion, ICERMS November 2024 has successfully advanced the Canadian Centre for Raw Materials Display Inc.’s objectives, contributing meaningfully to the discourse on sustainable economic development. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all attendees, organizers, and supporters who made this event possible, and we look forward to continuing these valuable collaborations.
