GUIDELINES FOR THE PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND RAW MATERIALS RESEARCH & ESSAY COMPETITION

1. Submission Period

πŸ“… Start Date: January 29, 2025
πŸ“… Deadline: March 15, 2025

All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM (local time) on March 15, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered.

2. Formatting Requirements

To ensure consistency and readability, participants must adhere to the following formatting guidelines:

βœ… Language: English
βœ… Word Count:

  • Secondary School Students: 1,000 – 1,500 words
  • Post-Secondary Students (Polytechnics & Universities): 2,000 – 3,500 words
    βœ… Font: Times New Roman, Size 12
    βœ… Spacing: 1.5 line spacing
    βœ… Margins: 1-inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
    βœ… Alignment: Justified
    βœ… Citations & References:
  • Use APA (7th edition) or MLA citation style
  • All sources must be properly credited
    βœ… File Format: Submit as a PDF or Microsoft Word (.docx) file

3. Raw Material Categorization

All raw materials must be categorized into one of the following groups:

1️⃣ Mineral Raw Materials – Includes metals, industrial minerals, and construction materials.
2️⃣ Agricultural Raw Materials – Covers crops, livestock, fisheries, and forestry resources.
3️⃣ Energy Raw Materials – Includes oil, natural gas, coal, wind, solar, and other renewable energy sources.

5. Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be assessed based on the following criteria:

πŸ”Ή Content & Research (40%) – Depth of research, accuracy, and relevance of raw materials analysis
πŸ”Ή Categorization & Comparative Analysis (20%) – Proper classification and comparison with other provinces and global contexts
πŸ”Ή Clarity & Structure (15%) – Logical flow, organization, and coherence of arguments
πŸ”Ή Originality & Critical Thinking (15%) – Unique insights, problem-solving, and innovation in presentation
πŸ”Ή Citations & References (10%) – Proper acknowledgment of sources, credibility, and adherence to citation style

6. Additional Information

πŸ“’ Selected essays may be featured in publications by the Canadian Raw Materials Council (CRMC) and CaCeRMDI.
